Bank Holidays - Since banks, government offices and most commercial enterprises have been closed, the names are actually different - based on public holidays.
In England, Wales and Ireland have technically four bank holidays: Easter Monday, Whit Monday, the first Monday of August Boxing Day in England and Wales, Stephen Stephen Day in Ireland.
In Scotland, there are five: New Year's Day, Good Friday, May First Monday, First Monday and Christmas Day of August.
The dates referred to in the Bank Holiday Act of 1871. Christmas days and Wednesday are the days when they are rested, and therefore holidays are considered as a public holiday instead of holidays.
In 1971 the Act was changed by the Banking and Financial Exchange Act, and currently there are six permanent bank holidays in England and two public holidays.
